In order to know how much of a certain chemical to add to your pool, you must know how many gallons your pool can hold. In fact, this simple formula will make all your calculations more accurate and therefore, your pool’s maintenance much easier.
Begin by calculating your pool’s Average Depth. If you have, like most people, a pool with different depths follow this formula:
SHALLOW END DEPTH + DEEP END DEPTH + 2 = AVERAGE DEPTH
Now for the good part, once you have obtained your average depth it’s up to your pool’s shape to help you determine your gallon capacity. For example,
Rectangular Pools:
LENGTH X WIDTH X AVERAGE DEPTH X 7.5 = TOTAL GALLONS
Round Pools:
CIRCULAR DIAMETER X DIAMETER X AVERAGE DEPTH X 5.9 = TOTAL GALLONS
Oval Pools:
FULL WIDTH X FULL LENGTH X AVERAGE DEPTH X 5.9 = TOTAL GALLONS

After determining the gallon capacity of your pool, make sure to write it down and keep it in a place where it is easily accessible at the time of your pool’s maintenance. ...
